Nicole & Dans wedding at the Wild Strawberry Cafe

Looking for your Great Missenden Wedding DJ?

Searching for a review of the Wild Strawberry Cafe Wedding Venue in Great Missenden?

We had so much fun DJing for Nicole and Dan at their wedding at the Wild Strawberry Cafe in Great Missenden in August! The venue is probably the smallest I have played so my set up was smaller than usual. I placed 2 small uplighters by the entrance and just used 2 moving head lamps next to our starlight DJ booth.

The wedding party used my p.a system for their speeches and Nicole and Dan chose God Only Knows by The Beach Boys for their first dance. A lot of family had come from Australia so the first half of the night was quiet with family members catching up with each other. The last half was definitely when the party started and requests such as Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen and Uptown Funk had the whole yurt rocking! Unfortunately the last song has to finish at 11.30pm at Wild Strawberry cafe and nobody was ready to leave!

Thank you to Nicole and Dan for booking me to be your wedding DJ. I loved playing at the Wild Strawberry Cafe and even stopped by the farm shop on the way out to pick up a bag of their yummy granola!

Ashridge House – Event Wedding DJ

Ashridge House recommended events and wedding DJ. If you are having your wedding, party or corporate event at Ashridge House please contact us for availability.

This summer has been our busiest yet and in August Hult Prize Foundation contacted us to DJ at their events at Ashridge House in Hertfordshire. We have DJed at Ashridge House quite a lot in the past and I was happy to be back on the decks at this magnificent venue!

The Hult Prize is an annual, year-long competition that crowd-sources ideas from MBA and college students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy, and education. The Hult family – founders of EF Education First – donates USD 1 million in seed capital to help the winning team launch a social enterprise. The Prize is a partnership between Hult International Business School, the United Nations Foundation, and the Clinton Global Initiative. Bill Clintonselects the challenge topic and announces the winner each September. Clinton mentioned the Hult Prize in a TIME Magazine article about “the top 5 ideas that are changing the world for the better”

Hult Prize Foundation booked us for both their parties this year and also hired our stand alone DJ speaker for a night when we were already booked.

We set up in the Wyatt room and used purple uplighting, our moving head lamps, 2 over head lighting units and we also matched our starbooth to the colour scheme. The dancefloors were full from the very start and we had requests from Snoop Dogg to Salsa! Both nights were really fun and when Hult Prize asked us to play to for an extra 2 hours we were only to happy to do so!

Claire and Stevens Wedding – Notley Abbey Wedding DJ

Looking for your Notley Abbey Wedding DJ?

Searching for a review of the Notley Abbey Wedding Venue in Thame?

Notley Abbey Wedding Venue DJ

Last week though my travels took me to Thame in Buckinghamshire where I had the pleasure of being the Wedding DJ for Claire and Steven at Notley Abbey.

I had been speaking with Claire over email and she had given me a long list of song requests that she and her guests had put together. This is always a great idea as I already know what the crowd want to hear and there won’t be any problems getting the party going or keeping people dancing!

We start with the first dance and then straight into party music that goes down a storm! WHAM! Im your man, Dancing Queen by Abba and Justin Timberlakes Cant Stop This Feeling were all requested and never fail to get people on the dancefloor.

My personal favourite was Disco 2000 by Pulp and it was very clear that I wouldn’t have any trouble keeping the night going. Everybody was up for a party and came prepared with glow sticks. Not bad for a Monday night!

By 11.30 the night had to come to an end and the bride and groom chose ‘Scenes from an Italian Restaurant’ by Billy Joel as their last song. The night went by in a flash and I would just like to thank Claire and Steven for booking me as their wedding dj. It really was a pleasure!

Notley Abbey Wedding Day

Sophie & Ryans Wedding at Huntsmill Farm in Buckinghamshire

The beginning of June bought us some beautiful weather and we were headed off to Huntsmill Farm in Buckingham to DJ for Sophie & Ryans wedding. Surrounded by the Buckinghamshire countryside Huntsmill Farm looked amazing as we pulled up into the drive. Sophie was (as you can imagine) easy to spot and looked so relaxed just chilling on one of the venues deck chairs and laughing with friends. I introduced myself and when the wedding party moved into the venue for speeches I set up my equipment in the newly converted barn.

Huntsmill Farm Wedding Venue

Power points in the exact places I needed them and a very helpful Harry made setting up super easy (apart from the heat!). There is also a built in p.a system so bands and DJs can just plug into the socket on the wall and do not need to bring their own speakers. I always do bring my own as you never know what kind of condition the venues equipment is in and the last thing you need is a speaker going down on you at the first dance! Luckily this system is one of the best I’ve seen in a venue, its good quality and Harry monitors the sound levels so I’m sure even this time next year they will be as good as new.

We started the evening off with Ed Sheerans ‘Kiss Me’ for Sophie & Ryans first dance and then into some tracks that never fail getting the dancefloor going! It was a great evening and everyone had a smile on their face.

There are a few things that make a venue really good to DJ in and these had them all.

1, A bar near the dancefloor – When venues have a bar in a separate room to the DJ, people (usually the men) tend to stay as near the beer as possible and its usually always harder to get these involved with the party.

2, Acoustics of this venue are just perfect – If you have a smaller wedding, you can easily close the doors to the main barn making the venue smaller and more of a atmosphere. We had the doors wide open as this was quite a large party.

3, Staff who are always on hand – Harry who was running the evening was always around to answer guests and my questions. I know this may sound obvious but staff who are happy to help make wedding suppliers jobs much easier and make the night run smoothly.

Huntsmill Farm Wedding

Sophie and Ryan booked our Evening Reception Dance package and we went for the starcloth DJ booth with 2 moving head lights and a overhead ADJ lighting effect. We didn’t need to supply Huntsmill Farm with uplighting as the bride and groom had giant MR & MRS letters that lit up the barn.

If you are looking for a wedding venue in Buckinghamshire I highly recommend contacting Hunstmill Farm to arrange a viewing and also contacting me if you are looking for a DJ!

The Top 25 Bouquet Toss Songs

You’ll want the perfect song playing when you toss your bouquet. Here are a few suggestions to set up the moment.

Perfect songs for your bouquet toss!

The bouquet toss is an old and faithful tradition. If you’re not familiar, the bride tosses her bouquet behind her head for one of the ladies in the audience to catch. Whoever gets their hands on the arrangement will be the one who gets hitched next (at least that’s how the story goes). You could really choose any upbeat track for your bouquet toss song, but female empowerment anthems are fan favourites

  • Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) – Beyonce

  • Where Them Girls At – Davide Guetta

  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper

  • Only Girl (In The World) – Rihanna

  • How Will I Know – Whitney Houston

  • That’s My Girl – Fifth Harmony

  • Man! I Feel Like A Woman – Shania Twain

  • Wannabe – Spice Girls

  • Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen

  • Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson

  • Mysterious Girl – Peter Andre

  • Can’t Hurry Love – The Supremes

  • What Lovers Do – Maroon 5

  • Mercy – Duffy

  • Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani

  • Shape Of You – Ed Sheeran

  • Lady Marmalade – Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, Pink

  • California Gurls – Katy Perry

DJing for Liz & Alexs wedding at The Hotel Du Vin in Henley On Thames

Last Saturday our travels took us back to Henley On Thames where I had the pleasure of being the wedding DJ for Alex and Liz at The Hotel Du Vin.

My name is Kai and I am a specialist Wedding & Event DJ based in Marlow, Bucks. I hope that this article helps in the planning of your event or wedding. Here is an account of my experience being an Hotel Du Vin DJ for the evening.

This historic former brewery is just 50 yards from the beautiful riverside, the hotel features its own French bistro. It’s clear instantly that a great deal of thought and planning had gone into the day.

The entire team at Hotel Du Vin are always entirely professional and friendly. It’s clear that the staff here take real pride working in such a lovely setting.

Canata room Hotel Du Vin Henley On Thames

Canata room Hotel Du Vin Henley On Thames

The wedding party were dining in the Canata room where we placed 4 purple uplighters to create a slightly warmer ambience. The wedding disco would take place in the slightly larger room (Ruinart) just down the corridor. Ruinart remains in keeping with the industrial heritage of the building with exposed beams, brickwork, and ironwork as well as a magnificent floor to ceiling bespoke mural.

The acoustics are also great in this room and its the perfect size if your wedding is on the smaller size of under 100 guests. We set up our star dj booth with focus lights and two light scanners on each side. We love this look. Its not over the top like many wedding dj set ups and the lights do a great job of sweeping the whole room as and when they are needed. Nothing is worse than dancing to your favourite songs at a wedding with multi coloured lights constantly flashing in your face!

The happy couple were clear with the music and feel of the evening they were hoping for and I was more than happy to deliver! I played non stop 80s classics from Michael Jackson to Madonna. A request for Love Shack soon got the party atmosphere going! I wouldn’t normally recommend a themed music night for a wedding. Mainly because as there is always a broad age range its best to play to a crowd rather than stick to a theme. This wedding was most definitely an exception to the rule. Everyone was ready for a 80s party and had a great time.

SM Discos DJ booth

The atmosphere was incredible and there was a whole lot of love in the room! To see the smiles on the faces of guests and of course the stars of the show is really special. As a wedding DJ it’s the most satisfying part of the job. To know that the day has finished on a high and lifetime memories have been made is really special. What did I play at the end? Madness ‘It Must Be Love’ of course!

I hope this article helps in the planning of your big day. I would like to thank all the team at The Hotel Du Vin in Henley for having SM Discos as their recommended wedding DJ.
