You may want to keep this away from your future husband!

When it comes to weddings, there are a million difficult decisions to make. For people who love food, choosing a menu and the perfect cake can be the hardest and most important one of all. In the midst of planning, what all the guests will be eating at your wedding can feel like a choice as important as who you’ll actually be marrying, but it doesn’t have to be that stressful. If you ever find yourself hyperventilating at a cake tasting, take a second to remember that everything will be fine if you just choose foods you and your partner love. It doesn’t have to be fancy, or trendy, or dusted in gold, if it just has to taste good to the two of you. How do we know? Jess Melara and Tony Sanchez’s wedding cake is proof.

Wedding cake pizza

Huffington Post reports that Melara and Sanchez were married back in December, and for the most part, their wedding was pretty traditional. The bride wore a lovely white dress, and the groom looked dashing in a tux, but one key element of the reception was totally unexpected. Instead of having a classic three-tiered white wedding cake adorned with flowers and pearls, the couple cut into four tiers of pepperoni pizza. Lucky for us, photographer Todd Good captured the pizza cake in all its cheesy glory.

Best wedding cake ever?!

The bride told the blog called Wedding Chicks that the “pizza cake” was her favorite part of the wedding, which makes sense because it’s very unique — also because pizza is the highlight of most nights. In her interview with the blog, Melara said, “Tony and I love pizza and aren’t huge fans of cake, so we surprised our guests with Pizza Cake (yes, I said pizza cake!). It was saucy and delicious and what pizza dreams are made of.” Hard to argue with that.

As different as the reception centerpiece was, it did keep with tradition in one small way. The pizza cake was topped with a wedding cake topper. A bride and groom figurine sat in the melted cheese and sauce on the very top tier of pizza, cute as could be. Not only was the pizza cake fun, charming, and tasty, it was also exactly what the bride and groom wanted, and what’s better than that?

What to remember when hiring a DJ for your party….

Its always great fun arranging a party, but one of the challenges is making sure you choose the right suppliers. The pressure mounts when the supplier in question is key to your function, such as a Wedding DJ, Mobile Disco, or Caterer for example. I have done so very many functions, I thought I would put together a few pointers to help you make the right decisions.

1. Budget is important, but you usually get what you pay for. On the whole, this is often the biggest challenge we have as a professional wedding and party supplier, with customers focussing only on price. My advice is as follows – if you have a limited budget, think carefully about the most important components of your function. A DJ is likely to be responsible for entertaining your guests for the last 5 hours of your function, and that can be a very long time if you have a budget DJ playing the Birdie Song and Agadoo throughout the night! So if your budget is stretched, you may choose to forego chair covers, or an open bar, and instead prioritise the spend on a product or service that adds more value to the evening.

2. Cheap DJ’s are cheap for a reason. They have kept their equipment prices and overheads low, using sub standard gear, with no backups, and they don’t invest in music. Cheap DJ’s often have very limited music selections, playing the same rehash for each function. Choose a DJ like us (SM Discos), who subscribe to weekly professional music subscriptions, ensuring the latest music available for client requests. When you choose a DJ who has years of experience, their library is vast, meaning they have the music available on the night to make your party a success.

Good work aint cheap, Cheap work aint good

3. Unlike Meghan Traynor, its not “All about the Bass”. Good Mobile Disco’s have good gear, meaning sound quality is optised without deafening anyone, or tripping the sound limiter in the venue every 10 minutes. While we do bring a large subwoofer to bigger parties, we focus on clean sound using high end speakers.

4. Experience counts. Like any profession, you cannot forego experience, and a professional DJ offers this. having done hundreds of functions, they know how to read a crowd, select the right music, the right key changes, interact with guests, and deal with situations when things go wrong, and keep your party an enjoyable experience. Ever been to a party where no-one dances??? Well, we haven’t, and there is a reason for that – we know what works. This takes years to achieve, and there is premium to pay for that expertise, but we think its worth it, and we are sure you will too.

5. Don’t do cash on the night. You may think its safer because you pay on arrival, but its not, most clients contacting us last minute are due to being let down by a DJ they haven’t paid in advance, because they have scarpered when they received a better offer somewhere else… or decided to watch the footy instead. Its even more prevalent with cheap DJ’s, I cannot tell you how many times we quote our standard price for a disco, and the let down client says ” well the other guy was only charging £150!”. Well, the other guy let you down! Meet your DJ, talk to them, sign a contract and pay the deposit – that’s how we do it and we have never missed a function. Ever..

YOUR Wedding disco

When it comes to the music its exactly to your tastes.

I make sure to ask your likes and dislikes beforehand, all the work I do leading up to your day ensures the selection of music played will be best suited and personal to you, your friends and your family.

I provide lists of wedding songs that from my experience I found work the best for audiences of wide age ranges and will have the most guests dancing. This is to give you an idea of what tends to work well although all weddings are completely different which is why it is just a rough guide.

On the day I make sure I have large music collections, ranging through the decades and all the latest chart music. This is so we have the song requests on the night, which are only played to your guidance, discussed in advance.

Music for a wedding reception or ceremony: If you need me throughout the day I can also provide wedding background music custom to your tastes, I will make sure music is to the levels where all guests are happy. I am also able to setup a system for your ceremony with songs to be played for each stage of the ceremony.

I also have a vast selection of first dance song suggestions to give you ideas on what to choose if you are finding it difficult to decide, all the songs in the collection have lyrical content best suited for weddings. You are also more than welcome to choose any wedding songs that are not in my collections these are just simply to help with your decision. For more info on our wedding discos please click here
